Ready Set Indie Games Live Streams: Monster Harvest (Nintendo Switch)

The Following game Monster Harvest was provided to me for free by the developers and publishers. Therefore I would like to thank the developer/publisher for providing a free copy of the game to play on my stream.

In this Live Stream, Ready Set Indie Games plays Monster Harvest on Nintendo Switch.

Monster Harvest is a farming sim monster collecting game that was released on Aug 31, 2021, to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Before I go into my review of Monster Harvest I would like to thank Maple Powered Games and Merge Games for providing me with a free copy of the game to play on my stream as well as for writing this review.

In Monster Harvest, you start off by creating your character. Now I will say that I was really impressed with the customization options for the character. It did have a lot of skin tones to choose from, and I would have liked more hairstyles but having all types of skin tones was a major plus for me in this game. After you create your character you then get to choose the name of your farm and then enter the game.

The game starts off like most traditional farming sims, you start off on a farm and NPC comes to show you the basics of how to run your farm. One of the things I did find odd with the game was the fact that you tend to use a lot of stamina and when I say a lot, it seems to deplete pretty quickly and if you don't have anything to eat to replenish it or you have to take a quick nap. Which can sometimes interrupt the flow of the game having to go and nap quite a bit.

After the first day, you are able to leave your farm and go into town to meet the other town folks. Which again is pretty standard for most farming sims. I did encounter some issues along the way, where I was trying to gather mushrooms and for some odd reason it would not let me gather them. I thought using a tool on them would work, but nothing seem to allow me to grab the mushrooms.

In town, you are introduced to planimals and told how to grow them. However, I did not get that far in the game, because I didn't have the money to afford the seeds to grow the planimals. So you have to do a lot of grinding to get the money if you do want to grow your planimals. Another strange thing was you could not cut down the trees on the farm. I found this odd because a lot of the time the trees tend to obstruct the view. So I'm not sure if I needed a stronger ax or if you just cannot cut down the trees.

The idea of the game is cute, and the game does look cute, but with some of those issues I had, it's really hard for me to really get into the game. I imagine that if you play the game for a while that you would get used to it, but it was really hard for me to get used to it.
