Disclaimer: This is the Ludo Narra Con 2021 Demo of the game and therefore it is best to realize that the following gameplay footage of Game Director Story is either an alpha version, beta version, early access or, demo of the game. Therefore, the footage you see may or may not be featured in the final version of the game, also there may be some noticeable bugs in the game.

Game Director Story due to release in 2021, is a visual novel where you take the role of a Game Director name Owlice, who with a close group of her friends is working on an indie game that has been picked up by a company. In This Demo, Owlice and her friends have moved into an office and enjoying their upgrade from the basement. The Demo starts with meeting Owlice’s friends and directors there is Molly, Technical Director, Philippe - Art Director, and Tala Audio Lead. As the game progresses you get to meet other characters that help along with the game’s development.

The story moves pretty quickly and is presented in a sort of text message format, but don’t worry you do have the time to go and read the messages in the current chat, but I will advise that whatever chat you are on, others can come in and sadly you won’t be able to get to all of them. So choose your chats wisely. In addition to reading the story, you do get to respond from time to time, and depending on how you respond has effects on different elements of the game development and if any of the game development elements hit zero, then the game ends. Another thing that your responses affect is your friendships which I found out later on in the game when I finished the demo and was completely blindsided by one of the characters. The story pulls you in and sometimes focusing on the elements of the game development can cost you.

In terms of controls, the game only uses the mouse. Which makes sense as there isn’t much more you’re doing in the game besides reading and responding. When it came to the art style, I loved the fact that they went with crochet typed characters. I feel like it was a bold move to use crochet yarn-type characters for the character design, and it does give the game character. I also loved that the game takes into account pronouns as well, which I thought was a nice touch and even puts you into situations in regards to doing the right thing.  In the demo, the options menu is blocked out, which is fine as I took it that they were working on the options for the game. So one thing I would personally like to see added in the options of the game is a way to adjust the font. Even with my glasses on, I had trouble seeing the font. So a way to make the font bigger would be awesome.

Overall, if you want to give a hand at being a Game Director for an indie company, trying to make their and their friends’ dreams come true then wishlist Game Director Story on PC or macOS via Steam.
